Education for deprived girls in Delhi
About Udayan Care and the Shalini-Fellowship-Programme
You would like to support a gifted girl in Delhi, whose parents
are too poor to allow her to study? We promote the Shalini-Fellowship-Programme
for girls from socially deprived families, a project run by our
partners Udayan Care.
To support a College girl’s education in Delhi will cost you
only 17 Euro per month, to support a girl’s Higher Studies
will cost you only 25 Euro per month.
Tara Trust has been working closely with one of its partners,
Udayan Care, to find new sponsors to give underprivileged girls
an education (the Shalini-Fellowship). This is a three to six year
sponsorship for socially and economically deprived young women,
whose families cannot afford their further education. The Shalini-Fellowship
allows these girls to do a Bachelor degree or Higher studies, while
they are guided by mentors in career choices, and attend workshops
throughout their sponsorship on social responsibility.

The annual support for high school (class XI & XII) is 10.000 Rupees. As she joins an under graduate course (Bachelor of Arts/Science/Commerce) the financial support is 12,000 Rupees. If she joins a professional course like MBBS (Medicine) or B. Tech (Engineering) the financial aid becomes 22,000 Rupees per year. For financial transparency, a detailed cost break-up is given below.
Every single supporter Tara Trust wins over for this outstanding programme, means that an additional girl will have a chance to be educated! If you want to help, please download the form and send it to us or contact us via e-mail: tara123 @gmail.com
How is my money spent?
Tara Trust helps to raise funds and find partners for a few, personally selected projects within India. Udayan Care is one of them. 100% of your donation will reach the project and will be used only for the benefit of the girl. The amount (see break up below) will be used for the girls annual school fees, coaching classes, books and stationeries.

The other costs per fellow girl is spent for the induction ceremony, monthly small group workshops for personality development, quarterly workshops for perspective building and career guidance, two residential camps for confidence building, remuneration for coordinators, communication materials etc. All programmes are organized by the NGO Udayan Care in Delhi. During the year 2009-2010, fifty-one new girls from different schools were inducted to the Shalini programme. But as the fellowship supports girls up to 6 years, the total number of girls of the Shalini Delhi chapter financed in 2009-2010 is 359. Tara Trust and Freundeskreis Tara for Chidren e.V. helped to find sponsors for 21 girls so far.
The main donors for the Shalini Fellowship Programme of Udayan Care (Delhi) are the Pakhar Singh Foundation through IPartner, UK, the Education Trust, USA and the Bharti Foundation, India. The value of the Rupee is constantly changing, depending on strength of the Euro/Dollar. The exchange rate in April 2010 has been 1 Euro for 60 Rupees, on which these calculations are made. In case the exchange rate goes up in future (i.e. more value for each Euro), the extra amount will benefit the Shalini Fellowship Programme.
